Because someone told him to “get a long little doggy.” 😛
Actually, he probably got one because Dachshunds are awesome dogs and they make him happy. Not to ruin an awesome joke, but isn’t that why we should really do things in life because they make us happy? Now, before you go quit your job, break into a store and steal all of their merchandise let’s talk about this. I want you to live a life full of happiness, but it’s not all going to be rainbows and butterflies, and your happiness needs to fall within reasonable and moral guidelines.
First of all, you still need some sort of income. The great news is that you get to choose what job you want! I know people who pick jobs that pay very well so that in forty years they can retire and then live the life they always wanted, but right now they are completely miserable. Not to be a debbie downer but you may not make it that long and then you just wasted all that time that you could have been with family, staring at a computer screen in a room with no windows. Now, some people love that type of job and more power to them, but if it’s not for you, then why are you still there? “If you find a job you love, then you never work a day in your life.”
Second, find hobbies that you enjoy and do them! Now, it’s sad that I have to clarify this but your hobby is NOT to be taken part in if it in any way harms you or another human, animal, or someone’s property for the sheer enjoyment of bringing that harm. If that is the case, I would make your first hobby a regular therapy meeting, For everyone else who has hobbies that do not harm in any shape or form, enjoy! I recommend actually finding a hobby that helps people. Though it should not be the main reason you volunteer, helping people does usually make one’s life more full and happy.
Third, go exercise! As it is so eloquently put in the movie Legally Blonde, “Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don’t shoot their husbands, they just don’t.” So, not only will you hopefully not harm anyone, but you will be healthier and feel better in your own skin. Isn’t that what we all want? We don’t want anything to hold us back from doing what we love and keep us from doing what we love for a long time. Exercise makes you stronger, able to accomplish activities easier and gives you an amazing chemical called Endorphins which actually FIGHTS stress! Improve your life expectancy, quality of life and reduce your stress!
Lastly, get a long little doggy! If it is within your budget, and you have the time for it then do it! Fine, it doesn’t have to be a dachshund (though I think they are one of the best dogs), it doesn’t even have to be a dog (I could write a whole blog post about why getting a dog will improve your health)! We spend so much time fretting and dreaming about things that shouldn’t take up that much mind space. You’ve always wanted to see a certain band play, go! You want a new outfit because it makes you feel good, get it! You have always wanted a dog (and have the time, money, and space) go for it! Why worry about these little things, you don’t need the stress! Stress kills happiness, and usually, the things we stress about aren’t even that big of a deal. Live a little more freely! Don’t be so uptight (-That one’s for me, I am so uptight!) Eat the ice cream go dancing, travel the world and just LIVE life, and CHOOSE happiness!
